The Launch-Ramp Workout: 20-Minute Explosive Circuit Inspired by the Tesla Roadster

A 20-minute low-impact power circuit inspired by the Tesla Roadster launch. Swings, squats and sprints with options for men over 35 and beginners.

· 3 min read

The launch-ramp workout is a 20-minute circuit of kettlebell swings, squat variations and short efforts that trains explosive power without needing a rocket. Power is the first thing we lose with age, so it's worth training carefully.

Pick a short workout if you want the clock handled.

Talk to your doctor first, especially before any explosive or high-intensity work.

Why train power after 35?

Power is force delivered quickly. It helps you climb stairs, catch yourself if you trip and keep up with kids. It tends to fade if you never train it. But it needs a base of strength and good form first.

Before you start

Do the 8-minute warm-up. If you've been inactive, spend a few weeks on basic strength. Read first workout after a long break.

The circuit (do each round, rest 60 to 90 seconds, repeat 4 times)

  1. Countdown swings: 12 kettlebell swings, snappy hips, relaxed arms
  2. Ramp squats: 8 goblet squats, 2 seconds down, fast up
  3. Thruster-lite: 8 squat-to-press with a light weight
  4. Push-ups: 8 (incline if needed)
  5. Quick feet: 20 seconds of fast marching in place (or fast stair steps)

Low-impact options

  • Swap swings for hip hinges or glute bridges
  • Swap fast marching for step-ups
  • Keep every rep controlled

Build gradually

  • Week 1: Two rounds, light weight
  • Week 2: Three rounds
  • Week 3: Four rounds
  • Week 4: Same rounds, slightly heavier bell or faster pace

This is progressive overload in action. Read what is progressive overload.

Pacing matters

The first round often feels easy and fools you into going too hard. Read your first round is lying to you: a guide to pacing.

Rest and recovery

Do this circuit once or twice a week, not daily. Walk on other days. Read how many days a week should I work out.

When not to do explosive work

  • You're in pain or injured
  • Your doctor has advised against it
  • You're exhausted or ill
  • Your form is shaky

Can I do this with no equipment?

Yes. Use bodyweight squats, hinges and push-ups. See 30-minute workout at home, no equipment, for men.

Will it burn belly fat?

It contributes, alongside food and walking. Read how to lose belly fat for men over 30.

The bottom line

You can't fire yourself off a ramp, but you can train power safely. Pick a short workout and launch from the floor. Back to the overview: Tesla Roadster fitness lessons.
